About The Course :-
A pre-sea training program for Diploma Mechanical Engineers approved by the Director General of Shipping Government of India. This Program trains Candidates in the theory and practice of marine Engineering and completes workshop training as per the IMO module courses. It provides Ship owners with a ready Marine Engineer.
This 24 Months Pre-Sea courses for Diploma (Mechanical / Electrical) at the Academy imparts comprehensive training in Marine Engineering and Shipboard Practice. It Comprises of academics and ship familiarization along with Marine Workshop training (as per IMO modules) done at academy.
After completion of the courses at the Academy the candidate undergoes the four basic STCW course. Diploma candidates shall appear & passes Class IV Part A COC.
Diploma candidates shall go for 6 months sailing on ship & 3 Months Preparatory course on shore. then join the shipping company's vessels as Junior Engineers where they undergo further practical training and maintain their TARB to ensure that the entire syllabus is covered and they get to do all tasks as prescribed & After this Diploma candidates goes for this Class IV part B, written & oral examination.


Educational Qualifications :-
  • Pass Diploma in Mechanical /Marine/ Naval Architecture / Electrical / Electrical and Electronics Engineering with minimum marks of 50% in final year and with minimum of 50% marks in English language at 10th, 12th std or Diploma exam.

  • Passed Diploma in Shipbuilding Engineering with minimum marks of 50% in final year (4 year course) and with minimum of 50% marks in English language at 10th, 12th std or Diploma exam. 
Age Limit :-
Maximum 28 years on date of commencement of training (1st January, 2013). Age relaxation of five years for SC/ST candidates and two years for female candidates applicable.


Physical and Medical Standards :-
Medically fit as per the standards set by Merchant Shipping Medical Examination Rules, 2000 as
amended from time to time.

Eye-sight :-
Candidates have to qualify a full eyesight test conducted by the DG Shipping approved medical doctor before being finally selected for the course. Maximum permissible tolerance is + 2.5 on each eye. Colour blind candidate is not eligible.
