About The Course :-
The one year Presea Training course for Graduates (GME) is a course leading to Class IV Marine Engineer Officer Certificate of competency, awarded by the ministry of shipping Government of India, after eight months of sea service, enabling the cadets to become Marine Engineers on board Merchant Naval ships anywhere in the world. This course is strictly residential.Consequent to the course and on completion of the mandatory short courses one becomes eligible to take up a career at sea as a junior/trainee engineer. A minimum of 8 months of sea service is then required to be put in on board merchant vessels on completion of which the junior / trainee engineers become eligible to write Class IV Part ‘B’ examination (Class IV Part ‘A’ examination, being exempted on the strength of the Degree awarded). Thereafter a Class IV Certificate of Competency is awarded by the Mercantile Marine Department, Government of India. Subsequently, they become full fledged Engineer officers of Merchant Marine and are free to take up lucrative careers within the Shipping industry world-wide.

Educational Qualifications :-
  • Graduation in BE (Mechanical) Engineering / Naval Architecture with minimum marks of 50% in final year and with minimum 50% marks in English language at 10th or 12th or in Degree Exam.

  • The candidates holding a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical and Automation Engineering after attending a course of 4 years duration from an UGC recognized university and or approved by AICTE, with a minimum marks of 50% in the final year, and a minimum 50% marks in English language at the 10th or 12th standard or in degree examination. These candidates will not get full exemption from MEO Class IV and MEO Class II Certificate of Competency Exam but require to appear and pass the“Heat Engines” written paper of MEO Class IV Part ‘A’ CoC Exam and “Thermodynamics & Heat Transmission” written paper of MEO Class II Part ‘A’ CoC Exam.
Age Limit :-
Maximum 28 years on date of commencement of training (1st January, 2013). Age relaxation of five years for SC/ST candidates and two years for female candidates applicable.

Physical and Medical Standards :-
Medically fit as per the standards set by Merchant Shipping Medical Examination Rules, 2000 as
amended from time to time.

Eye-sight :-
Candidates have to qualify a full eyesight test conducted by the DG Shipping approved medical doctor before being finally selected for the course. Maximum permissible tolerance is + 2.5 on each eye. Colour blind candidate is not eligible.
